The West Sahara Community Association, or more commonly known as "The Lakes" was developed in the early 1980s. The development effort for the community coincided with the larger expansion of residential housing for the Las Vegas Valley during that time. The community's centerpiece is Lake Sahara, a sparkling man-made lake developed with the community with boat docks and fishing for homes with lake frontage. The community offers single family residences, custom homes, townhomes, condominiums, apartments, and commercial properties as members of the association. Bounded by Sahara Avenue, Desert Inn Road, Durango Drive, and Fort Apache Road, the community offers a true neighborhood experience, with shopping, dining, and recreation close to home. The community has three parks; the North Park is at Crystal Water Way and Lake North, the South Park is at Crystal Water Way and Lake South, and an expansive walking trail park system that winds throughout the community. The walking trail park system is used constantly by residents of the community who walk, run and bike daily, surrounded by lush and mature landscaping. With its creation almost 30 years ago, the West Sahara Community Association is a well-maintained and beautiful master planned community for the homeowners, residents and business owners that call the community home.
